Urine Protein by Capillary Electrophoresis

High throughput Urine Protein Electrophoresis, with high resolution results.

Published date: 3/8/2021 | Modified date: 6/9/2026

About Urine Protein by Capillary Electrophoresis

Urine Protein Electrophoresis is a well-established technique routinely used in clinical laboratories to detect and estimate the concentration of monoclonal components as Bence Jones proteins (Monoclonal Free Light Chains) or other proteinuria disorders.

Key benefits

Urine Protein by Capillary Electrophoresis : Automated test for screening and quantification.
  • Fully automated testing

for qualitative analysis with fast separation and good resolution with dedicated reagent and program on CAPILLARYS.

  • Direct visualisation of urine protein profile

for quick screening and identification of abnormal urinary pattern.

  • Separation into major protein fraction

CAPI 3 PROTEIN(E) 6 kit enables the separation into five major zones: Albumin, Alpha-1, Alpha-2, Beta, Gamma.

  • Ability to quantify abnormal peaks in two modes

Valley to valley or Baseline to top.

Main characteristics

Test principle

Urine Proteins are separated in silica capillaries by their electrophoretic mobility and the electroosmotic flow at high voltage in an alkaline buffer. Proteins are directly detected during migration by UV absorbance and quantified by a peak.

Sample type

Urine

Performances

  • Full traceability and positive sample ID for primary tube samples
  • Full traceability and reagents management through RFID tags
  • Color-coded backlit reagent containers
  • Rapid validation via 48 to 96 profile mosaic display

Sensitivity

Limit of detection with CAPI 3 URINE:

  • Protein abnormality is approximately 9 mg/L
  • Bence Jones protein is approximately 20 mg/L

Large autonomy

  • Samples up to 528 tubes (with tube loader)
  • > 2.5 hours protein testing
